I am continuing to work within the field in which I am familiar; however, I am open to working within different aspects of my field. I am open to teaching, administration and scoring of standardized tests, providing continuing education services to agencies or foster care families, working as a mobile crisis counselor/or assessor, etc. In this field, there are many various applications of our degree and I know there are many agencies, private practices, and businesses seeking individuals willing to work hours and days other than 8-5 Monday through Friday. I am such a person due to currently pursuing my doctoral degree in clinical psychology. I have no problem making up my hours on weekends, holidays, and evenings. I love working with adolescents, which others find a challenge.

  8. barbaraplumley

Honestly I did not enjoy my job in the military (aviation operations specialist). It was very tedious at times, and extremely stressful. With that said i know it would be smart to get certified in something i have spent so many years doing.

  9. pennybell

I am looking for employment in the same field but I always keep my options open to new and exciting opportunities.

  10. ljwp

Been talking with friends online. One works for the railroad as an engineer. Says its good pay. I been thinking about a job like that. But says that they can lay you off with no reason. Would really like more info if anyone knows about what it might take to get on. I know its a union job.

Also I would like to share. Getting on with HEB the grocery store is a pain at times. I’ve been trying to get on with them for years now . You have to apply online at there site with them . Then take an evaluation test. What they don’t tell you that I later on found out. Your score in 3 levels (green) they will call you back , (yellow) still want you and will call you (red) you won’t get a call . All depends on how long it takes you to finish the evaluation and what responses you give. You have to focus on answering with the customer is always right etc. Then if you pass you go threw a phone interview . After that a one on one interview. And finally a group interview. Some HEB’s like the one in woodway require you to sell a product that is sitting under your chair in front of everyone to one of the managers there.
At the end they will say there gonna go out of the room and call names out one at a time . What they don’t tell you is if you get called then you aren’t getting the job. They say to wait for a phone call within 24 hrs or apply back again. They wait until they get rid of anyone that isn’t getting hired . Then tell the reamining applicants about doing there drug tests etc. And they make it on . =(

I WOULD LIKE TO STAY IN THE CONSTRUCTION OR MAINTENANCE FIELD SINCE THATS WHAT I KNOW BEST

  22. beverlyheaton

I have worked in the banking industry for over 35 years and thought that was where I would continue to look but I am open to any customer service position in a different field and ready to try something new.

  23. theresatanguma

I am currently looking for work in my familiar career which is in the medical field. If nothing in medical field production would be okay rrally just need to work.

  24. Charles Waddle

@barbaraplumley — A new law was just passed by both the House and the Senate (almost unanimous in both). It may apply to you. It says training in a specialty within the military will apply to that specialty’s federal certification or licence. Should be signed by Pres. shortly.

  25. Charles Becker

WHEN SEARCHING DIFFERENT JOB WEB SITES, SUCH AS MONSTER.COM THEY SUGGEST POSTING YOUR RESUME. WOULD IT BE BETTER TO FIND THE EMPLOYMENT/ JOB FIRST AND THEN RESPOND WITH RESUME? OR “POST” YOUR RESUME …?

  26. Jonathon Pledger

After college, I chose to work at the family construction business instead of pursuing a career in my major field of study, marketing. I left there and went to work for a plumbing company after receiving a lucrative offer, but it did not turn out to be a great fit for me. I now want to find a career that better utilizes the skills I obtained earning my BBA from Baylor University, whether it be a marketing position or something similar.

  27. heatherellis

I have been in the medical and healthcare fields for 10 years. Specifically in the sales, wellness, marketing and public relations fields. I had an interview monday with Carterblood Care this week for a Marketing Consultant position. If anyone has any scene something along these lines, please let me know.

    Thanks

  28. evelyn dickerson

I AM CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR A JOB IN THE SAME FIELD.WHERE I CAN HELP PEOPLE.MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THEIR LIFE.BUT I AM WILLING TO A NEW CAREER OPPURTUNIES.

  29. Ernestine Sample

I love retail but somewhere down the road I grew out of it. I would like to say its because of the pressure from higher authority and the fact that nights and weekends becomes a problem.I never got a chance to spend time with my family or friends. I work so much. So now that Iam older I do not want to miss out on things in life, like dinner with my family, chruch services, events or even birthdays. I am in college(MCC)taking up social work and I love it. I have always been a people person and I love helping people so this works out for me. I would love to work morning shifts and have my weekends off never experience that before.

  30. sheterricawiggins

I currently am looking into staying within my current field, which is teaching, however it is presenting a problem when looking for a job in the Waco area because the teaching jobs Im certified to teach arent available here. I’m considering changing my profession back to business since I have a business degree. We will see what the next couple of weeks bring.

    Sheterrica W.

  31. joancampbell

I am happy in my field, but I am always looking for something new that fits with my experience as well.

  32. angeladevinney

Good luck for those with recent interviews. I had an interview with Denton County MHMR about ten days ago. They should be making decisions within the next week according to what they told me. I also recently applied for jobs with Parkland Hospital and McLennan County (teaching positions). I’m going back to school working on my doctorate in clinical psychology. I really want a job with benefits since right now I’m paying for Cobra insurance each month.

  33. vivianmonroe

Well for the past 25 years nursing is all that I have done so basically it is all I know however I would be open to something new if the pay was comfortable to what I have become accustome to as a nurse.I know that I have become so what tired of long term care nursing but I know that there are so many different other things in the nursing field that is available and so I continue to look

  34. jannpage

I am sorry about the previous message having two type-o mistakes. Most of the time I am very good with typing, however this morning is a new thing for me. My computer is very slow and I will pay better attention to my words.

  38. jenniferobinson

good morning everyone, i’m all over the place. in some ways i want to contine to work in the field that i’m in but a lot of me is mentally & physically not wanting to do it any more. Nursing is just not what it use to be. People are not in it for the right reasons anymore. Private care i would much rather do if i had to stay in this field but its just so hard to find a private care person. I just keep telling myself that i want a job Monday thru Friday from 8am to 3,4 or 5pm and by 5:30pm I want to be on my way home. I want a change, I need a change & a part of me doesn’t care about the money. You know my bestfriend asked me a long time ago if i could do any job and dont get paid to do it & would make me happy. What would it be? I said a coach and working with young girls that have been through some of the things that I have been through in my life. Well i’m still looking for the door to be open & job. You all have a blessed day….in God’s Grace

  39. felderleaks

I have experience in many different job fields. I am open to most anything. By the way, the positions that Jeff mentioned at Caterpillar are 8 hour shifts.

  42. fgerick

    Good Morning !

I would like to stay in the employment field (payroll)that I have been in for the last 35 years. I am open to other positions that would be in a financial field. I would like to find something in a School related field, as to finish out my years for retirement, but I’m looking at everything. You never know what can come your way and find that it can be just as rewarding.

Good luck everyone and have a great day !

  43. Melvin

We have just determined the date for the large job event, it will be August 15th

  44. debbiearmour

Good morning! I’ve been in insurance for over a dozen years, and I’m more than ready for a change! I would love a position as a title abstractor, but with our current housing market, right now there are no openings available. So, I’m broadening my horizon and pursuing other clerical positions, such as an admin assistant.

  45. Charles Waddle

Please explain the “large job event”. Thanks

  46. vincenttorres

AUGUST 15 WHERE AND WHAT TIME?

  47. Melvin

  49. jeffwhite

    Jerid,
Have you checked with Hennsel Electric, They were hiring a couple of weeks ago..

  50. Melvin

It will be an event featuring more than 15 employers in a large location. We are still trying to determine whether it will be a showcase, a one-on-one event, or just an open job fair. My choice would be the one-on-one interview format but it will be up to the employers to choose.

  51. Michael Dutton

I am still looking in the areas that have expertise in, procurement, supply chain management, inventory control, project management, lean manufacturing, continuous improvement and risk analysis. I am increasing my job search area to include Austin & Dallas / Ft. Worth.

  52. sharringt0n

    Good morning everyone!

I am looking in two different directions at the moment: Graphic Design/Marketing Design and Education/Training. I had a nine year stint teaching Graphic Design at TSTC so I have some teaching experience under my belt as well as graphic design. I don’t, however, have a Teaching Certificate so the school districts are out.

I customize my resume for each position applied for. With 30 years experience, that way I can pick and choose what to emphasize that meets the position’s requirements

  53. patriciavansau

    Good Morning,

Anything in a Doctor’s office or a related healthcare field for clerical position. Just really really want to work. I have worked my entire adult life and it feels so good to be able to help people that are ill.

  57. Eugene Wlodarek

I am presently looking for job opportunities in the engineering and drafting fields

  58. brandyrodriguez

For the past 14 1/2 years, I have worked as a Radiation Therapist. I truly loved the work that I did and the reward that I received from it knowing that I was helping cancer patients through a very rough time. I would love to stay in the field, but the field in this area is very limited. I’m afraid that I will need to change career paths and/or consider going back to college for a new degree. Change isn’t always a bad thing…just scary. If anyone knows of a position where I could utilize my medical knowledge, please feel free to share!! Thanks!!

  59. barbaradugger

I have been in the Food Industry for 30 years, am looking for an opportunity to change, am currently thinking about going back to school, to further my computer skills. Would like to work in call center or go into Medical Billing and Coding Technology.

  60. joancampbell

  61. patriciavansau

I have found several of these opening on Craigslist, especially in Dental. One this week was for oral surgeons on 7030 Sanger Ave, Ste 100. It said to take a resume by.

  62. brandyrodriguez

Scott & White is almost always looking for front desk help and they have so many outside clinics…. You can always apply online there.

  63. sandrarenner

    Has a location been determined

  64. Michael Dutton

    Charles,
My feeling is that it is better to use the job search web sites to find the position and company that you are looking for and then go directly to the company web site to apply for the job. The problem that I have run into in the past with posting on job sites is that you get overloaded with junk emails about jobs that you may not be interested in working for the company or what that particular position. The exception to that is the Vetjobs site if you are a veteran.

  65. Melvin

Information for the upcoming job event will be forthcoming. You will be the first to know the specifics of the event. If it is going to be a one-on-one format, then, you will be notified of your specific appointment time. If it is going to be an open job fair, then the time will be determined at the time that decision is made. However, definitely, look for more details as they evolve. Announcements will be made right here in this Job Club.

  66. jannpage

I have applied online to Scott White for any type customer service position, no response so far.

  67. Charles Becker

MICHAEL, THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY. CHARLES.

  68. richardcoleman

Have you checked into L-3. It might not be what you prefer but they used to offer a program for helping out with the certification.

  69. mikecalderon

I am continuing to look for work in the field which I’m familiar with. I’m looking for warehouse work or truck driving jobs. I’ve been in warehouse work for over ten years. i am ready to get to work.

  70. brandyrodriguez

@barbaradugger- there is a company in Austin that does coding and that kind of stuff….A friend of mine works for them and she just had to drive to Austin for a few months and now she’s working from home. I also think that they will help you get certified in coding, too. I’m not sure if they are hiring but I think that it’d be worth looking into. The company is called Revenue Cylcle.

  71. Michael Dutton

    Patricia,
I saw one listed on the indeed job search site for an Admin. Assistant at Coca-Cola Refreshments in Waco. You can go directly to the Coca-Cola Refreshments web site to apply. They have great benefits.

  72. vivianmonroe

Well looks as though I’m the only person still on. Truth be told this is a great idea and yes it saves on gas and yes it helps with crowd control but there is nothing like face to face talking. Know what I mean

  73. richardcoleman

    Jeff,

Are you qualed to instruct CHL classes? TECLOSE?

  74. joannbrown

I have experience in childcare for the last 2 years and 8 in customer service. I would enjoy finding a new job in secretarial work, somewhere I can interact with people but also have time to be organizing.

  75. sandrarenner

Hope everyone has a great day & good-luck on the job search

  76. vincenttorres

Aerotek is also in the Workforce Center today until 4pm. They are in Room 118 and they are looking for CNC machinists, welders and people with electrical background as well as mechanical assemblers.

There is also a job fair going on right now at MCC. We are trying to get more details on that.

  89. kareypatterson

Morning everyone: I am still looking for a job in healthcare. I have been an RN for 8 years and a Nuclear Medicine Technologist for 15 years. I have always worked in the hospital setting. Although I think the hospitals are getting rid of people that have been in the field for a long time. If anyone has any ideas I am open to them
    Thanks

  90. Melvin

Okay here is the scoop on the job fair going on at MCC today. It’s from 9am to 1pm only. They are looking for people with Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. About 24 businesses were scheduled. The address is at 4601 North 19th Street in the Conference Center at MCC. It is an open job fair so good luck.

  91. Melvin

This job club will continue 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Next Wednesday, we will post a new discussion. Feel free to continue to comment and communicate, as needed. Next week we will cover resumes and profiles. Thanks for the participation!

  92. sharringt0n

I only briefly posted my resume on monster, then pulled it off when I started getting tons of spam from insurance companies looking for no-salary sales people. I’m not in sales, never have been, so having my resume on monster was not useful for me.

  93. sharringt0n

Hi Michael – I’m a graphic designer, too. Waco is a tough town for our occupation. Do you have an online portfolio? I have one up at Creative Hotlist, they’re pretty reasonable. They have job listings, too. Mostly DFW and Austin. But if you’re willing to relocate…

  94. sharringt0n

Good luck, Mac! Come back and tell us how it went!

  95. candicelovell

I am looking for a job in the field I have experiance in, a manager of food service. However this is not what I want to do a long time. So I am persueing a degree in Nursing to futher my education. Since I have no background in Nursing, the food service industry is a way for my to establish a new job at this time.

  96. kimmisharobinson

Hello everyone!!!! I’m looking for a management position!!!! I am a student at Tarleton State and my major is business management and administration!!! I worked at Walmart for 5 years as a CSM (Customer Service Manager)…I’m still looking for a job that I can be a manager in. If anyone know a job or something similar to that, please feel free to inform me on that…I would be grateful of that!!! Thanks…

  97. angeladevinney

Those looking for CDL jobs I just passed a billboard on I-35 near the Sun Valley Rd exit saying Big Creek LTD is now hiring CDL drivers. I didn’t get the phone number but if it has a billboard on the reverse side or if I see another one on my way to Temple then I’ll post their phone number. I know it was a 254 area code, but that was all I got.

  98. angeladevinney

So I guess this means it was considered a success?!

  99. angeladevinney

Have you considered some of the medical coding or utilization review positions at hospitals and psychiatric hospitals. There were also some Educational RN type positions recently with Scott and White in Temple

  100. taylorroywilliam

I just attended a job fair at workforce solutions. I am eager to get back to work.

  101. angeladevinney

Wow, Jeff that is so cool! I’ve been wanting to get my CHL but don’t have the money right now.

  102. sherriemorgan

I have 15 years of customer service and technical sales experience. I also handled the advertising and some collections for our office. I really enjoyed the technical side of my job. But the office I worked for relocated to Houston. I don’t believe there is another job like it. So I’m open to new opportunities.

  103. tammywitt

I am studing at school in a field that seems to be of great interest healthcare information

  104. angeladevinney

Sorry, I just now read all the way back up. My Internet connection failed for a time this morning and I had to do battle with Time Warner Cable so I didn’t even know about the job fair that I could have attended. Answering more specifically Melvin’s question so others can help me with job searches. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor. I have a Master’s Degree in Counseling, 11years experience counseling in a variety of settings including psychiatric hospitals, outpatient mental health, residential treatment centers, an Adult Prison, and now contract work through private practice. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults. I’m working on my doctorate in clinical psychology and will obtain a Master’s in Psychology along the way (here shortly). Thanks.

  105. victorianimmo

I was working as an editor for a health education company, which included doing original research and writing as well as copyediting, proofing, and writing a lot of marketing copy. I enjoy using research, writing, and organizational skills, and I have been looking for jobs that use those skills. I enjoyed writing about health-related topics, but I’d certainly be interested in writing about other topics, too.

  106. jeffwhite

    Angela,
look up Region 12 on the web they have listing of schools that are looking for Counselors. I know the School my wife works at had a opening for a counselor at Oglesby ISD between McGregor and Gatesville on Hwy 84.
    Jeff

  107. zshade37

Continuing to look for something I would enjoy.

  114. amyarthurwhite

During my career I have gained a wealth of experince and knowledge that can be applied to many different fields. However, I am finding that most of the postions offered that meet my talents and skills either require a degree or relocation. Moving is cerainly an option but, not at this time. With more than 20 years of experience in the field of broadcasting I have a great deal of experience in public relations, event planning and promotions, artist and band management, studio production, on-air, news direction, copy-writing, commercial production, sales and marketing to name a few. I have traveled extensively as a Regional Public Affairs Manager handling FCC compliance and Public Affairs for one of the largest broadcast organizations in the world. My greatest challenge so far is that the postions I am qualified also require a bachelor’s degree. This has been most frustrating. I’m finding I’m way over-qualified or I match everything the postion requires…execpt a degree.

I am looking for a career change; however, since I am over 50 it has been difficult. There have been many challenges in my life time and I attempt to tackle all head-on. My work experience has included production, data-entry, clerical. Customer Service is my preference, there are so many resources out there that people need, but don’t ask the right questions or don’t know what questions to ask. I have always learned about the job I’m doing so well that I seek all resources available and share.

I have enlisted on the website “CareerBuilders” and this is a great area to seek employment in different areas of work and location. Be aware that there are scam agents out there that are using the heading of “CareerBuilders” to con you into illegal doings. I have encounter such a scam and turned them into the appropriate authorities, so be careful who you may sign up with for career opportunties.

Other career websites that maybe useful are the following:
    1. Jobsnearyou.net;
    2. Careeralerter.com;
    3. Central Freight Lines have several openings at this time.

So if anyone has any information they can send my way, please feel free.

  142. lynwaren

Dear Lance: Thanks so much for sharing that information about HEB. It’s so sad that someone has to go through all that for a job when there are so many people out there that could be super employees. In this time of economic stress, you would think HEB would be more open minded.

I am going to school online for Arts in Business so hopefully that will get me to, or close to, what I am looking for. All the jobs that I have seen, I have no experience for and I am hoping that someone will give me a chance to do what I would like to do and I can show them that I can do it.

I would like to put my Master of Library Science degree to work for me. My preference would be to work in a library, archives, museum, or other information oriented position. I have worked as a data entry operator and would consider doing it again. I would also consider working in a production or distribution (warehouse) facility — I’ve had some experience in the area. I am open to trying other things to. I am realistic about the difficult financial times and keep in mind being flexible to try and survive.

Good day fellow job searchers. I too am searching to get back into the clerical, office manager, or administrative assistant field, which I truly have enjoyed for 18+ years. My last job was in the sub assembly field, which I disliked. Due to my relocation to the Waco area an because of lack of employment I choose what I was offered at the time. Due to unfortunate situations, I now am in search again for employment, if anyone knows of anywhere else I could apply at please drop me a line. Every type of lead or assistance is greatly appreciated.

  160. Melvin

I am jumping the gun a little but just saw this item and wanted to share it.

How important is an objective statement on a resume?
Often, people tell us to include an objective statement on a resume. However, there are few people who think that it doesn’t matter. Is it important to have one?
Though many people are very focused about their job field, I am sure there are many people with multiple interests. How would one go about having an objetive statement when applying for multiple positions in different functions (say Finance, Strategy etc.) at the same target firm.

  161. Melvin

Just to let you know, we are averaging 2.2 job placements a work day. So, everyday 2 people are getting jobs. We are wanting to triple that number. With the help of the job club this become much easier to accomplish.

So, keep searching and keep sharing.

  162. angeladevinney

    Mac Knight,

Good to know that your wife can help because even after the technician came out the next day…we continue to have “spots” in the cable from time to time. They removed the splitter and that was supposed to fix the issue. No problems with the internet now 🙂

  163. angeladevinney

Thanks for the suggestions about the school Jeff and about Cedar Crest ljwp. Cedar Crest is too far south for where I’m trying to be due to wanting to move towards Dallas eventually. I’m currently driving there 1-2 days a week for school depending on the semester. In the fall I begin practicum in Waxahachie two days a week and my classes in Dallas will be from 1-9pm on Tuesday. I’m hoping to find something that will allow me to work day, evening, and weekends so I can make up for when I’m needing to do practicum. Most schools might not allow that. A lot of schools also want school counselors (Licensed Specialized School Psychologists), which I am not, but I’m definitely going to check into those leads, because schools have ready access to children and adolescents and they are my favorite population! Thanks!

    Angela

  164. angeladevinney

Melvin, could you please send me the information on that case worker position so I can look into it anyway? It never hurts to be informed and check out your options fully. Thank you. Angela

  165. angeladevinney

I just found out today that the part time job I have in Fort Worth on Saturdays…even though just two weeks ago I expanded to add Tuesdays to try to get more hours and more money, Child Protective Services (Texas Department of Family and Protective Services) has cut their contract with the agency I’m contracted with and my agency can’t absorb the difference this time for us. It will cut the individual therapy rate by 20% and family therapy rate by 10%. I have to let her know soon whether or not I’ll be able to continue working there when the contract changes on September 1st. Right now I can’t afford not to because I don’t have another job, but at those rates, I can’t afford to. I really NEED to find another job. Anyone with leads, I really appreciate it! Thanks.

I have sent several resumes to Providence healthcare for customer service (which I am very qualified for ) and today no responce. 168. jannpage

Sorry about the mistakes in my typing, no excuse, just did not really edit before I sent it. Will keep working on that.I do so enjoy this type of communication instead of driving all the way into Waco.

  169. jannpage

Thanks to Linkedin.com, I just mailed my resume to Central

Universal Trailer Cargo Group Inc wants production workers. All these can be found in Work in Texas if you need more information. Keep an eye out for our next dicussion this week. Have a good one!

  173. markskinner

I’ve been looking at jobs relating to my work experience in production management and also looking at possibilities for working in an administrative/clerical role which is similar to the work I’ve had over the past 9 years as a contractor. While the management role is probably more lucrative, I’m leaning more toward the admin type work. In my particular case, I feel like the declaration of my work experience and previous job positions are really a negative in searching for something new and different. The best possibilities right now seem to be with health care (Scott & White in particular has several admin job openings right now).

  174. Mac McKnight

angeladevinney, Her name is maryanne and her number is 855-0702.

Well I didnt get the pepboys position, all was good untill they sent me a two question placement test.
1st question asked what I thought of my self and had a lot of words to choose from,I selected the one I thought best desribe me.
The second was what did I think other thought about me and I selected the word I thought.
They came back and said my score was to low for that position.
How can ones oppenion be scored ?
    Well still looking
They did say I might quailfie for another position and will be in contact with me ? I guess I might have been to honist for them ?

  175. ELAINE MCDANIEL

With 30+ years experience in bookkeeping, I definitely will continue in this field. However, I am expanding my skills by taking a course to become a certified tax preparer and getting my Quickbooks certification. It’s been a long time since I had to study so it has been an adjustment.

  176. debbiearmour

Good morning! I was looking for your new posting regarding resumes. I’m currently out of town, and this will be the only time I have to check the Job Club until this weekend. So, I’ll have to wait & respond then. In the meantime, I wish everyone good luck in their job search!

    Debbie

  177. angeladevinney

Sorry to hear about the position, Mac. Thank you for the info. The next time I have a problem with it, I’ll contact her.

Melvin, you mentioned in another job club meeting that the objective statement on resumes sometimes confuse employers because they might have a position that you could do, but you may end up “pigeon holing” yourself in their eyes where they just toss your resume to the side and look at another one just because of that objective statement. This is the reason many resumes no longer contain them. A lot of that same information that could have been contained in an objective statement could be contained in a cover letter while addressing whichever positions you may be applying for. In this way, should they have similar positions at the facility that your qualifications and skills match, you won’t be automatically pushed to the side on the basis of what you put in or left out of your resume.

    Angela

  178. jannpage

Good morning all job seekers!! another day of searching. I have not located the new posting regarding resumes. Am I early or possibly I overlooked the posting. Good luck to all.

Jeff, one is never—too old. I am dedicated to a long history of employment in the healthcare field, and find that age (now for the first time in my life) is the problem. I am over 65 but do not look it. My resume gives it away due to long term employment. Good luck on school. Your at the right age.

    Good morning everyone,

They manufacture commercial modular structures primarily used in oil fields, but also in other areas.

    POSITIONS THEY ARE CURRENTLY SEEKING:
    Drafts Person
    Purchasing Manager
    Costing Manager
    In-House Sales Person
    Line Production People

They currently have about 20 people and are looking to hire up to 100.

Best of luck, everyone. I hope this helps.

  193. richardguthrie

For anyone who may be interested, I interviewed with Rainbow Exotics out of hamilton, they have been running an ad in the waco trib for drivers to deliver live animals to major pet stores across the country. No cdl is required and the job pays between 400 and 800 per week depending on your route. I wasnt offered the job due to lack of driving experence, but some of you might be interested.

  194. vikkireese

I think I am having the same problem. I don’t look my age either. I have never ever in my life had a problem getting a job until now. I don’t like having to do the application on line and then having to do a phone interview. I think you make a better first impression in person.

  195. beverlyheaton

Good morning all. I am still searching jobs in the banking or financial field. I did sign on to Providence Hospital and they have over 40 positions available including a Billing Specialist so I applied for it.

Morning. With the announcement of the new Baylor stadium construction, there’s a good possibility that there might be some job creation related to that. After the Waco city council votes in August, the construction prep should commence quickly from the new reports I’ve heard. Might be a good opportunity for some job seekers. You can check out the progression on the http://www.baylor.edu website, linking to the new stadium info tab. later…

  199. lancesanders

Hi didn’t see any new topic to post reply. But I’m here. =D

  200. fgerick

    Good morning everyone,
Hope everyone had a good week. Jeff I too think I may have to enroll in some courses or something to start over. None of us are to old to start over,it just will take some of us longer, being out of school for so long (meaning me !). I was looking for the resume posting also.
Mr. Collins you had asked questions earlier if it is important to have an objective. I don’t think it is as important as having a “Summary of Qualifications” listed so that they can see up front everything you can do. I feel that this can help the employer see first hand your qualifications before seeing your past employers. But on the other hand some employers ask for your objectives when you apply for some positions.

  201. chriscutbirth

is this site for jobs or just job readiness

  202. angeladevinney

As I told Jeff when I emailed him separately, you are never too old to go back to school. There are actually studies that show empirically that anything you do to keep your mind sharp may actually help to ward off things such as dementia and alzheimer’s (such as going back to school, crossword puzzles, brain teasers, sudoku puzzles, etc). When I went back for my Master’s Degree there was a 65 year old woman just beginning her Master’s Degree. I have worked for the past 11 years and am now beginning the 3rd year of my Doctorate. There are people in their 40’s and 50’s entering the same program I’m in alongside those in their 20’s. Never sell yourself short!

  203. jeffwhite

Next Question what do I look at as far as a new career. I guess I will look into computer drafting and auto cad. I always enjoyed doing Drafting and Mechanical drawing in high school… I dont know choices , choices lol…

  204. sheilaparrish

Good morning everyone. If you will refresh you will now see the new title for June 25, 2012 on Resumes.
    Thank you
    Sheila Parrish

  205. MissRudd

@jannpage We always suggest that your work history on a resume should only extend back 10 years. Let’s all talk more about resumes under our new discussion that we have just posted. Thank you all for keeping an eye out for it. It is now up and ready for comments.

  206. ljwp

There is a new discussion topic related to resumes under Job Club, now. Apparantly, this one is still tied to the 7/16/2012 topic.

  207. carolynwalter

    jeridsmith,

Having been in business and being a Union Contractor several years ago, we hired Union employees through the designated Unions. If interested in this field, I recommend you contact the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, they can explain the process of becoming an apprentice and getting you signed up correctly. If you have trouble finding the number, contact the AGC (Associated General Contractors) in Waco located on Waco Drive next to El Conquistador.
Hope this helps get you started!

  208. Melvin

Everyone, we are on discussion 2

  209. Melvin

Chris the site is for jobs, job search and job-readiness

  210. Melvin

Please note we have changed the discussions, go to discussion 2

  211. MissRudd

    Mr. Cutbirth,
this site holds many resources for job searching and readiness. If you would like to explore the website you will find articles about job readiness and services like resume construction. To find our list of Job Postings you will need to select the Job Search Tab and click Employment.

  212. Michael Dutton

    Good Morning,
I believe that an objective statement is important on a resume. It does not have to be labeled as such on your resume. Instead it can be a short introductory paragraph under the title or type of job that you are looking for or applying for. Below is a comment from a professional career counseling service that I have been using.

“A professional objective defines the kind of work you want to do within your profession, making it easier for the people you talk with to know exactly what it is you are looking for and be of optimal assistance to you. If you are a human resources professional, for instance, it is important to let people know what kind of human resources position you are looking for (e.g., recruiting, compensation and benefits).”

Your skills or qualifications that define your expertise can be listed below this statement.

    Hope this helps.

  213. shellycawthon

I would like to stay with my current field.

  214. shellycawthon

how do I find discussion 2?

  215. garymccully

I seem to be systematically excluded from some desirable positions due to age (unable to commit to a long term future with an employer) or “recent” history of work in a particular field. For instance a professor position at MCC, but no recent history of teaching though I taught extensively for years prior to retiring.

  216. garymccully

    Where is discussion 2 ?

  217. Daniel Coulon

Use a cover letter customized for the particular job you are applying for and include it with your standard resume if you’re in a hurry. Customize the resume to target the job you’re applying for if possible.

  218. Sally Green

I am currently searching for a job in the accounting/bookkeeping field. I am however considering other options such as maybe getting into Human Resources, or even going back to school to get an associate’s degree in a technical field.
