Discussion 41 Alamo: Dress to Impress

This week, we would like to touch on a few important points that have come to our attention.

After receiving over 100 resumes in less than 10 days, we are seeing some troublesome issues –objectives, grammar, structure and more. A resume is a major key to success. Therefore, it must give the best impression to produce the best results. Have you had your resume reviewed lately? If so, who checked it?
With impressions on our minds, we need to look toward the image we present when applying or interviewing for a job. Yesterday, we observed how a person was dressed after having gone to an interview. What they chose to wear was not appropriate for the type of job they were applying for. When you go to an interview, you should be dressed for the type of job you’re applying for, but always with a touch of professionalism. Examples include:
Executive position = Suit and Tie
Sales/Clerical position = Slacks and Dress Shirt
Warehouse/Production position = Dress khakis and Dress Shirt
Food Service/Labor = Dress Khakis and Dress Shirt
Do you have any questions about the proper attire for a job that you’re applying for?
Dressing for success is always important, but character of a person will always be the up most important feature of any human being. We have watched many tragedies fall upon our country lately, most recently, right here at home. In times like these, we must support our neighbors, loved ones and heroes. We are all joined by one basic similarity… we are human. We are friends and family. Consider what you can do for your neighbor and lend a helping hand, because one good deed leads to another. Please take time out of your busy day today to express a moment of silence and send positive thoughts to those affected by these tragedies.

Discussion 40 Alamo: Do you have the big 3

After many months of working with individuals on UI and other programs, it has become obvious that many of you do not understand the big three things that can get you employed. Let’s review:

Resume –   Resume must be clearly stated

Easily readable

Targeted to the job you seek

Checked by someone other than yourself for errors

References must be notified

Interview – The interview must be focused

Company should be researched

Be prepared to have a conversation

Practice in a mirror and in front of family or friends

Be prepared to give a one minute presentation about yourself (employment-based)

Tell the interviewer what you can do for the company (solve a problem or make the company money)

Likability – Employers hire people they like

You must be able to work well with others

A positive attitude goes a long way

A sincere smile can make a huge impact

An energetic interest in the company must be portrayed

Do you have your three? If not, what are you missing?
